What do camel crickets look like?
Camel crickets, or cave crickets as they are commonly referred to, are a unique looking species of cricket. These crickets do not possess sound producing organs and therefore do not chirp.
Camel crickets have a distinctive “humped” appearance and very large, powerful back legs that they use for quickly jumping away from predators and other sources of danger. They are a large species of cricket with adults growing to between ½ and 1 ½ inches in length. The camel cricket is light brown to dark brown in color and may be mottled and/or have dark banding on their bodies or legs.

Are camel crickets dangerous?
Camel crickets are not dangerous to people, with no known instances of them biting or transmitting diseases. Camel crickets are, however, dangerous to personal items found within homes. Camel crickets will feed on and damage things like upholstered furniture, linens, curtains, clothing, and other similar items.
Why are camel crickets in my home?
Camel crickets are typically found living outside in cool, damp, moist areas like underneath of mulch, landscaping ties, woodpiles, fallen trees, or decks. However if the weather outside suddenly becomes too hot and dry, and their humidity needs are not being met, they will move inside homes, sheds, garages, and other buildings.
Inside of homes camel crickets will hide out in dark, quiet, humid areas which usually include places like basements, crawl spaces, laundry rooms, and crawl spaces.
