Why Now Is The Time For Professional Termite Protection

Some pests are seasonal, bothering us through the spring and summer, then dying off or disappearing in late fall or winter. Others are a problem throughout the year, even if we can’t see them. Termites in Greenville & surrounding areas fall into that second category, so why do we refer to spring as “termite season”? We will answer this question and more, so keep reading.

Why is spring called termite season?

Although termites may slow down in the winter, they remain active all year, especially if they’ve already gotten into the climate-controlled environment of your home. Because of this, there really is not a certain season that we can call termite season.
However, spring is still known as termite season for one good reason – spring is the time of year when termites mate. This is the only time of year that you have a good chance of seeing termites out in the open. It’s also the time of year when new colonies form.
Different members of any termite colony have different jobs. As you would expect, the job of the reproductive members of the colony is to reproduce. These reproductive termites come up out of the ground in a swarm (you’ll often hear these termites called swarmer termites for this reason) and find mates. Once they’ve found their mates, they lose their wings (they’re the only members of the colony that have wings), then head off together to start their own colony.

Why Now is the Time for Professional Termite Protection

Spring is the perfect time of year to secure professional termite protection for several reasons:

  • Because it’s “termite season” you’ll be more likely to have termites on your mind and less likely to forget to do something about them.
  • Spring is the time of year when new colonies are established. If you don’t currently have termites in your house, there’s a good chance that some will end up there during their hunt for the perfect living area.
  • If you see a termite swarm or their discarded wings, these are sure signs that a large termite colony is somewhere nearby. If you don’t take preventative measures now, you’ll almost certainly have a problem to deal with later.

As in most areas of life, when it comes to termites, prevention is the best option. Trying to eliminate termites after they’ve already gotten into your home is possible, but it’s far more costly and stressful.

In order to prevent termites from invading your home, Spencer Pest Services offers the best termite protection on the market. The Sentricon® System with Always Active™ works by baiting worker termites as they hunt for food. They then bring the bait back to the colony, effectively eliminating every termite there.
When you choose Spencer Pest Services, we not only install bait stations around the perimeter of your home, we also inspect your property for signs of termite activity. We continually monitor for termites even after we leave.
